Hayden Homes Investing in Redmond Senior Center

Recognizing that older adults are one of their most important customers, Hayden Homes designs and builds smaller, affordable single-level homes in neighborhoods that offer amenities, says Deb Flagan, Vice President of Community Engagement. This loyalty to its senior customer base extends to the company’s involvement with the Redmond Senior Center.

“Hayden Homes’ giving spirit encourages our team members to be the next generation of givers,” explains the company’s website. “Through genuine compassion and leading by example, our actions will influence others to make this world a better place to live.”

“We originally became involved with the senior center years ago, supporting its move into the current location on Dogwood,” explains Flagan. “When we were contacted about helping with Meals on Wheel program, we knew it was the perfect opportunity to pitch in again. This was a natural fit for Hayden Homes as our main giving focus is to provide essential services to the communities we serve. Delivering a daily meal is as essential as it gets.”

Several Hayden Homes team members currently volunteer to drive, deliver, and connect with older adults receiving daily meals. However, as the months in lock down wore on, Hayden Homes knew the pandemic was having additional impacts on the center. Flagan met with board members to discuss additional ways it could help. As a result, Hayden Homes has committed to funding a Program Director and supplying necessary equipment to support the position.

Jane Jarman, the new program director, started working with the Redmond Senior Center in June. Her background in dementia and adult community centers gives her a unique focus on bringing awareness, educating families, and teaching skills to partners and professionals about how to transform culture around older adults. Her experience working with volunteers is also invaluable.

“We jumped at the opportunity to ensure that older adults will be able to get out of their homes (when it is safe) and connect them with services, resources and programming as soon as they are available,” Flagan says. “We’re excited that Jane is taking on this initiative, revitalizing existing programming and adding new activities to support wellness, safety, education and life skills, recreation and interests, and community connection.”
